Three months ago, I started drinking warm lemon water every morning. I noticed within a few days that I no longer craved my morning coffee. That meant no immediate caffeine rush from one or two cups of coffee or a crazy sugar overload from my coffee creamer.

After starting my day with lemon water, I didn’t desire coffee all day and haven’t craved coffee since!

Drinking lemon water before meals boosts our stomach acid, allowing our bodies to break down and digest food more quickly. This helps us have more frequent bowel movements.
  4. Anti-Inflammatory Properties – The vitamin C in lemon water helps our bodies produce collagen, which helps repair every part of our bodies. Plus, the antioxidants in lemons help fight inflammation, such as joint, body, and muscle aches.
  5. Curbs Sugar Cravings – The sour taste of lemons can counteract sugar cravings! Detoxing with lemon water slows digestion, keeps blood sugar levels from spiking and crashing, and improves nutrient absorption, curbing our desire for sugar.

How to Make a Lemon Water Detox

Adding mint is a great way to enhance a lemon water detox.
  • Pour 8 ounces of filtered water into your favorite glass or mug.
  • Squeeze ¼ to ½ lemon into the water.
  • Add a dash of cayenne pepper. Combined with lemon, cayenne pepper packs a punch to help fight against bacteria.
  • Warm to the desired temperature. I found the most effective temperature for a morning detox to be warm-to-hot. Throughout the day, I opt for room-temperature lemon water.
  • Optional ingredients to add to your lemon water detox:
    • Other citrus fruit, such as oranges or limes
    • Apple cider vinegar
    • Fresh ginger 
    • Cucumber
    • Honey or maple syrup
    • Mint 
    • Turmeric
    • Cinnamon
